SIMLab - Structural Impact Laboratory

SIMLab

Nobody knows better how materials and structures react to impact than SIMLab, Structural Impact Laboratory.

Decades of research and unique lab facilities have made the group world-leading. Experiments interchange with modelling and simulations, if necessary down to nanoscale.

Research started on steel. In due course, aluminium, polymers, glass and concrete were added. SIMLab hosts SFI CASA and Toppforsk project FractAl. The 13 partners in CASA include four of the world’s leading car producers, and Equinor and Hydro.

Work or study at SIMLab?

At SIMLab we aim to understand how materials and structures react to impact and other extreme loadings. Our obejct is to develop computer models who describe the behaviour. Taking a master's degree with us allows you to do work highly relevant for research as well as for the needs of the industry.
We combine practical work with tests and numerical analyses.
The more we know, the better we can design safe and cost-effective buildings, cars, and other structures.
