Department of Laboratory Medicine, Children's and Women's Health

Unit for Gynecology and Obstetrics

Unit for gynecology and obstetrics is responsible for tuition and research in gynecology and obstetrics. The research activity is also partly over-lapping and partly interdisciplinary with other research units such as paediatrics, morphology (pathology) and endocrinology.

In obstetrics we research topics within foetal medicine, methods for determining due dates, weight, and pregnancy related studies focusing on preeclampsia, going past the due date, and endocrine problems that may affect the pregnancy, etc.

In gynecology we perform research on incontinence, urogenital prolaps, oncology and infertility.

The unit has a wide-spread collaboration with the Centre of Molecular Inflammation Research (CEMIR) and the Department of public health and general practice (ISM) where several PhD students use the Medical Birth Register and HUNT-materials for epidemiological studies.
