Unit for Applied Clinical Research
The Unit for Applied Clinical Research (AKF) is a centre of expertise in clinical research in the Central Norway Health Region. We offer advice on research methodology and statistics, provide practical help with research projects, and can also take active part in research projects.
Our main focus is on randomised controlled studies, in line with NTNU's strategic focus on medical technology and population-based health surveys.
Main work areas
- Practical assistance and advice on tasks such as research protocol writing, sample size calculation, and study design. Advice on ethical issues and the organisation and administration of research projects.
- Patient randomisation in trials.
- Registration of data: forms for optical scanning, local databases, and web-based remote data entry for multi-centre studies.
- Statistics: assistance and research cooperation.
- Courses in clinical research and statistics.
- Practical assistance with systematic literature searches and with writing journal articles.
- Registration of clinical trials (ClinicalTrials.gov) and help to complete EudraCT forms as part of the SVT application procedure.
Research
Advisory services and research in cooperation with all units at the Faculty of Medicine and with St.Olav's Hospital and other hospitals belonging to the Central Norway Regional Health Authority. Specific research activities are also listed on the web pages for individual members of the academic staff.
Teaching
The unit is responsible for courses in research methodology and medical statistics for students at undergraduate, master and PhD level at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Organisation
The unit is part of the Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine. Its services are available to students and staff at the faculty and at St.Olav's Hospital and other hospitals belonging to the Central Norway Regional Health Authority. The unit receives its funding from the Liaison Committee between the Central Norway Regional Health Authority and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and NTNU itself.
