Medical Statistics - Section for Applied Clinical Research - Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
What can we offer?
Assistance, advice and research cooperation
We offer statistical assistance in various project phases, including:
- Definition of research hypotheses
- Sample size calculation
- Study design
- Choice of and use of software
- Choice of statistical methods
- Evaluation of results
In medical research, it is essential to select an appropriate study design and sample size, and we encourage researchers to contact us at the start of their projects. Our assistance may be limited to this stage, or may be a starting point for more comprehensive cooperation where we participate actively in the project.
Contact: Send an email to email@example.com
The statisticians at AKF are course leaders or lecturers of several courses within medical statistics. The courses are organised at the Department of Public Health and Nursing.
For students at the Master’s level:
MH3003 Statistics in Medicine and Health Science
For students at the PhD level:
- KLMED8004 Medical Statsistics, Part 1
- KLMED8005 Medical Statistics, Part 2
- KLMED8008 Analysis of Repeated measurements
Researchers that plan to apply statistics within medical or health research, are adviced to aquire the knowledge corresponding to Medical Statistics, Part II, as a minimum, and to aquire the knowledge early in the research process. However, we recommend attending the course Medical Statistics, Part II, as well. It is possible to attend lectures in selected topics of Part II without attending the course in full.
For more information on the course contents, we refer to the course web pages.
We have experience of a range of statistical software, including
SPSS General statistical software which is widely used in medical research. Easy to use and suitable for many users.
Stata General statistical software. It is much more comprehensive than SPSS, but still user-friendly. Increasingly used in medical research, and can be recommended for most users.
R Advanced statistical software, flexible as regards both computations and graphics.
StatXact Exact computations for small samples or special situations.
LogXact Exact computations for logistic regression.
SamplePower Calculation of sample size and power.
Two-by-two Exact conditional and unconditional tests in 2x2 tables.
