The deep sea - University museum
The deep sea
Were you aware that giant squids have drifted ashore in Mid-Norway?
In this exhibition we explore various organisms living in the sea and finds from the wreck The Pearl. The ship, a frigate, sank in a storm off Norwegian waters in 1781. Its wreck was discovered in the 1970s and subsequently explored by marine archaeologists.
The exhibition houses a large artificial aquarium with models of both common and rare species of fish. The model of out giant squid hangs suspended from the ceiling and is over 9 meters long! You will also get the opportunity to see photos of the specimen collected, giant squid beaks, and a preserved tentacle.
