Icebreaking Seismic Survey Vessel

Dr. Lisnyks International Student Ship Design Competition 2013

NTNU's participants of this years international student design competition won the 2nd price with their design of an icebreaking seismic survey vessel. They based the in-sea equipment on a conventional streamer technology and added subsea foils and control units to make sure that the equipment stays submerged and free of surface ice. The ice breaking induced velocity fluctuation have been compensated for by a constant tension system. The tech- nology is based on heave compensation systems used on offshore cranes which is both proven and reliable.
