Organizational anthropology at NTNU
The Department of Social Anthropology at NTNU is continuing the tradition of organizational studies and is developing the field of organizational anthropology through research activities and education programs.
A source of innovation in this field is related to the possibilities provided by the university's spectrum of inter-disciplinary research, which opens up for many cross-scientific relations. The cross-disciplinary cooperation of NTNU has led to close links between the university and the private and public enterprises.
Also important in this regard is NTNU's close cooperation to SINTEF. In 2003, as a result of funding from Johan B. Holte, a pioneer in industrial development in Norway, a professorship was established at the department of Social Anthropology with the aim of developing the field of organizational anthropology. The professorship, held by Professor Carla Dahl-Jørgensen, and the activities within this field in Trondheim, is a witness of the close cooperation between NTNU and the industrial world and has in many ways contributed to the establishment of COA.
Since the Fall of 2003 several courses within this field are taught at the department of Social Anthropology. The courses are well attended by students at bachelor as well as PhD level.
The main focus of organizational anthropology at NTNU is:
- Multicultural workforce and work life
- Global production and business systems
- Ethnography in organizations and institutions
