Course content

Alphabet and pronounciation

Grammer, basic vocabulary for everyday life

Texts and lectures concerning Norwegian culture and Norwegian society

Learning outcome

Knowledge:
- alphabet, pronounciation rules and linguistic structures of the Norwegian langugage
- basic vocabulary in Norwegian
- Norwegian geography and history
- Norwegian culture and social life

Skills:
- oral and written basic Norwegian in specific social situations, with an emphasis on oral communication.       

Competence:
- be aware of specific cultural traits and the way of life in Norway and know how to relate to Norwegian culture taking account of one's own cultural background.

Learning methods and activities

Oral and written communication, individually and in groups. Lectures with background information on Norway. Training in communication skills: understanding of basic oral and written Norwegian, speaking, reading and writing. Practical, individual excercises in class and in the local environment. Training through dialogues and role plays. Indivdual supervision and counselling.       

Mandatory requirements:
Min. 75% attendance in class.4 compulsory, written assignments, 1 oral presentation in class. These must be passed in order for students to take the final exam.

Previously approved mandatory assignments do not need to be handed in again for later exams.

Oral examination (60%) 

Re-sit examination:Students are entitled to re-sit only the part of the examination in which they have had legitimate reasons for an absence or have failed. A re-sit examination will take place only during the designated period for re-sit examinations.
