Course content

  • The supply of sport
  • The producers of sport
  • The demand for sport
  • The economics of team sport
  • The economics of illegal behaviour
  • The economics of sport and the media
  • The economics of sporting events

Learning outcome

The students are given insight into the economics and financial aspects of mainly professional team sports, with focus on European football

Knowledge. The students:

  • have knowledge about the structure of professional team sports
  • have knowledge about leagues and competitive balance
  • have knowledge about the supply of sport
  • have knowledge about the demand for sport
  • have knowledge about the labour market in professional team sports
  • have knowledge about accounting and finance in professional team sports
  • have knowledge about the economics of sport broadcasting
  • have knowledge about the economics of sporting events


The students are able to apply methods from economics, business and finance into sports, as well as peculiarities within sports affecting the economics, and the business and finances of sports.
