Course content
The course comprises the following items: External climate exposure on buildings, critical exposure conditions for different materials, degradation mechanisms of building materials, dose/response functions, protection of materials, requirements and needs for service life prediction of building materials and components, methods to predict and estimate service life.
Learning outcome
The scope of the course is to give knowledge about external climate exposure on buildings and structures, degradation and durability of building materials and components, methods to predict and estimate service life.
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, colloquia, self studies, preparation of an individual project report. The topic of the report will be related to the research areas covered by the course, and it may be related to the actual PhD project of each student. The lectures and exercises are given in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
Recommended previous knowledge
MSc degree within research areas related to Civil and Environmental Engineering or Material Science and Engineering.
Required previous knowledge
MSc degree with qualifications for PhD studies at NTNU.
