Course content
The course is usually based on guided self-study. The course surveys the contributions of economics to transport planning. Among the themes are economic travel demand models, external effects, public goods, criteria for pricing and investment, economic valuation of the effects of traffic, and economic rationality.
Learning outcome
The course should enable the student to analyze transport problems by using economic reasoning.
Learning methods and activities
The obligatory exercise consists of writing a paper in which a transport problem is analyzed by economic reasoning in such a way that it demonstrates mastery of central parts of the syllabus. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
