Course content

This course explores a topic within literature or cultural history, or an interdisciplinary topic. The course may build upon themes explored in lower-level courses. A more detailed description of the academic content will be made available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.

Learning outcome

Candidates who have passed this course
- have in-depth understanding of a topic in literature or cultural history, or an interdisciplinary topic;
- have critical insight into scientific approaches and methods relevant to the analysis of the subject material;
- are able to write substantial analytical texts on the topic(s) studied in academic English, making appropriate use of relevant theoretical notions and specialist scientific literature from the relevant discipline(s).

Learning methods and activities

Lectures/seminars, discussions, supervision. Students are required to use the digital course learning platform regularly and to make an active contribution in class.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).

Compulsory assignments

  • Written work(s) (approx. 3,000 words). May include an oral element.

Further on evaluation

Assessment:
Term paper, approx. 3500 words and oral examination, 20 minutes.
The term paper counts as 60 % and the oral examination counts as 40 % of the final grade.

The oral examination can be expected to test the candidate's knowledge of the entire curriculum.

If a student fails one part of the exam, they must retake only that part of the exam. If a student retakes a passed exam, they must retake all parts of the exam.
