Course content
The main elements in the course are basic interaction mechanisms between ionizing radiation and matter and the theoretical basis for dosimetry for the use in radiotherapy and diagnostics, as well as for risk assessment of radiation exposure of humans. Important topics are: Interaction cross sections (classical), mechanisms for interaction of photons, neutrons and charged particles, fundamental entities in dosimetry, cavity theories, radiation equilibrium, applied dosimetry in radiation-based medical diagnostics and therapy, neutron dosimetry, internal dosimetry and personal dosimetry.
Learning outcome
The course provides knowledge about the interaction mechanisms between ionizing radiation and matter, both charged and uncharged particles (photons and neutrons), the theoretical basis for dosimetry of ionizing radiation, and provides the basis for clinical application of dosimetry.
Learning methods and activities
Classroom lectures, calculations.
Oral presentation as compulsory activity.
Compulsory assignments
- Muntlig presentasjon av selvvalgt tema (individuelt eller i gruppe)
Further on evaluation
100% Report as evaluation form. Oral presentation compulsory to pass the course.
