Course content

The field course will provide an advanced presentation of landforms and processes in mountains and polar areas, current research questions in these areas and introduction to relevant field methods.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The course aims at providing the students with experience in field work and relevant field methodology and data processing, combined with an advanced knowledge of landforms and processes of mountain areas.
Skills: The candidate will through the compulsory field course be able to develop a research objective, and to plan and carry through field work. The candidate will further be able to employ different types of field methods and process the collected field data.
General competence: The candidate can work independently with collecting and processing of field data.

Learning methods and activities

4 hours lectures. 5 days fieldcourse in the Oppdal area. 2 days fieldcourse Dragvoll (introduction to the field methods), 6 hours seminars. Teaching will only be given if a sufficient number of students register for the course and if the Department has sufficient teaching resources. Compulsory assignments

  • Lectures, fieldwork preparation and fieldwork

Required previous knowledge

GEOG1005 Earth`s Natural Environment or equivalent. GEOG2004 Sediment Production and Transport on Slopes and in Rivers and/or GEOG2003 Glaciers and Glacial Landscapes should be passed and completed or taken parallel in the same semester.
