Course content

The Bachelor thesis shall be carried through and documented as a scientific project with introdution, method, results, conclusion and discussion.

The Bachelor thesis shall reflect the opportunity to compare and elaborate the knowledge and skills the student has adopted earlier in the study.

The Bachelor thesis shall be based on a real problem setting, given by NTNU or the industry .

Learning methods and activities

Pedagogiske metoder:

The Bachelor thesis shall be carried out as an independent work, usually by a group of three students. Each group will have at least one advisor among the scientific staff, and eventually also advisors fro the industry. The students organize regular meetings with the advisors to inform about status and plans, normally each two weeks.  

Obligatoriske arbeidskrav:

The student group shall deliver a common written report with all the documentation. The report shall be in Norwegian or English.The follwing documents shall be added as electronic appendices to the report:

Problem definition with expressed goals for the project

Project plan/research activities including time schedule

Short reports from status meetings with advisors

Poster

Before evaluation the thesis shall be presented for the fellow students and staff in plenum.NTNU claims the rights to all aspects of the thesis if no other agreement is signed. In the case of external projects special contracts may be signed.

Further on evaluation

In the evaluation og the Bachelor thesis both process and product will be emphesized. Both parts shall be thoroughly documented. The grade is based on the written documentation. In the judgement og the thesis the following aspects will be considered:

originality and depth og subject

technical solutions and calculations

problem definition, method description, evaluation of resultats compared to problem setting, and support of conclusion.

independent work

ability of critical judgement of own work

correct and vlear documentation.

An individual grade will be given for each student.Resit exam:In the next semester.

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Engineering - Computer Science (004DA)

Required previous knowledge

The student is required to have fulfilled a minimum of 110 credits from the two first years of the study program, including all courses in the first year of the program.
