Course content

This course builds upon material from the course “Records Management, ICT and Archives and Museums' Collections Systems - an Introduction.” In this course the students will get a more thorough understanding of records management related tasks like registry work. The course will also cover digital collections. The informatics or computer science aspect of the course provides a broader introduction to web-development and collaborative work.

Learning outcome

Knowledge
The student will have
- basic knowledge of how computer networks and how they work, including the internet and local area networks
- knowledge about records management standards, and standards for the planning of collections
- knowledge of case handling and records management systems, and systems for the planning of and development of collections
- an understanding of basic HTML and CSS and the terms virtualization and cloud computing
- basic knowledge about threats and measures related to data security

Skills
The student can
- contribute to well working routines and best practices in archival and records management activities
- read and understand how an HTML document is built up, and do simple editing of the code
- use the basic functionality of a given publishing system for publishing content on the internet
- write process documentation such as time sheets, week reports, meeting summons and meeting minutes, and set up a work contract between team members
-conduct simple electronic record keeping task like registry entry

General competence
The student can
- work independently with tasks in archives and records management functions in public and private organizations
- choose suitable collaboration tools and use such tools to solve tasks with others
- explain how to establish and implement projects
- apply basic knowledge of team collaboration and team development
- understand the principles of electronic case handling

A combination of lectures, seminars and assignment related seminars.

MANDATORY WORKING REQUIREMENTS:

- ICT simulated exercises

Students who do not get their qualification assignment approved at the first attempt, will have one week to deliver a new and improved assignment.

Mandatory work requirements are assessed with approved / not approved.

Archive and collection management (LTARKIV) - some programmes
