Course content

An assignment is written on a student-selected theme from music history connected to the student’s principal instrument. The assignment must include analytical elements.

Learning outcome

The candidate:
-Has extended knowledge about a defined theme in history of western classical music, and also about one or several compositions within this theme.
-Has knowledge about and can orient oneself in relevant literature.
-Has the knowledge that is necessary and can use relevant methods for doing musical analyses.
-Has knowledge about good language and basic academic writing, and can complete an independent written assignment.
-Can relate her/his knowledge about history of music to the musical performance.

Learning methods and activities

Individual tutoring and 6-10 classes. Assessment: Assignment.
The title of the assignment must be submitted for approval prior to Oct. 1st.
Scope: 15-20 typed A4 pages with 1.5 spacing, type size 12, and standard margins. Example notes and illustrations are in addition to this.

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Admission to a programme of study is required:
Music Performance Studies (BMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Requires passed MUSP4123 or MUSP4125 or corresponding course.
