Course content
A written assignment on a student-selected theme from music history which may be connected to the students principal instrument. The assignment should include analytical or critical elements although other possibilities can be discussed. The projects main question(s) and overall formulation will be developed in consultation with the course instructor. At the latest, the formulation of the main questions and provisional title must be approved by 15 November.

Knowledge:
The candidate:
-Has extended knowledge about a defined topic in history of Western art music, from the Middle Ages to the Modern era, and also about one or several compositions within the chosen area.
-Has knowledge about and can orient oneself in relevant literature.
-Demonstrates knowledge of relevant analytical methods.
Skills:
The candidate:
-Demonstrates good writing skills and has knowledge of the conventions of academic writing.
-Can select, research and complete a written assignment independently
-Can relate her/his knowledge about history of music to his/her own musical performance.

The title of the assignment must be submitted for approval by 15 November.
Scope: Ca 6500 words (18-20 typed A4 pages with 1.5 spacing, type size 12, and standard margins). Bibliography, music examples and illustrations are in addition to this.
