Course content

In this theory seminar we focus influential social science theories and how these can be used in social scientific analyses. These theories will be treated as a tool to understand current events. We also try to be critical to the application of these theories in social science research. The term paper will be an independent analysis of one of the topics covered by the lectures, and should be 6000-8000 words.

Learning outcome

Knowledge – the student shall: * deal in depth with one or more specialized area depending on the academic focus each semester. * be able to use social science theories on current social science issues.

Skills - the student shall demonstrate the ability to: * be able to treat one of the themes which has been discussed during instruction in an independent manner through written work which is at a high international standard.

Learning methods and activities

Seminars and lectures equivalent to 4 hours per week. Form of evaluation:Term paper.
Whether or not the course will be taught the autumn semester 2013 will be decided at the beginning of the autumn semester.

Master’s degree in Sociology or Political Science
