About the course

Course content

SØK3003 presents detailed analyses of theories of employment, inflation, business cycles, economic growth, and problems related to the balance of payment. Among other things we discuss how expectations are formed, inter-temporal adaptation, and consequences of macroeconomic politics such as monetary- and income distribution politics. The main emphasis will be on the formation of macroeconomic politics in open economies with extensive foreign trade.

Learning outcome

Students should develop a thorough understanding of modern macroeconomic theories, and particularly theories that shed light on the adaptations that take place within open economies with extensive foreign trade. Students should be able to apply models and logical argumentation as a tool in the analysis of exogenous shocks.

Learning methods and activities

4 hours of lectures every week and 2 hours of practical exercise every second week.
Compulsory activity: 2 approved term papers. The course can be taught in English if requested and as by the Department’s evaluation.
