Course content

The course gives students a specialization in a given subject area in Spanish linguistics. Themes may vary from year to year. Current topics can be communication and translation, contrasting aspects between Spanish and Norwegian or language variation in the Spanish-speaking world.

Learning outcome

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate:

  • has detailed knowledge in Spanish linguistics and specialized insights in the curriculum subject areas
  • understands and can analyze issues in Spanish linguistics based on theories relevant to the topics in question

SKILLS

The candidate:

  • can formulate arguments and explain advanced issues in Spanish linguistics in appropriate and correct oral and written Spanish
  • can analyze and relate critically to different sources of information and apply them to structure and formulate scientific reasoning about a particular topic in Spanish linguistics
  • can use the knowledge from the subject in new areas within the subject field

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate:

  • has insight into source criticism
  • can plan and conduct academic tasks
  • can convey advanced academic material such as theories, approaches to problems, and solutions, both in writing and orally as well as through other relevant terminology
  • can use relevant academic tools

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars and online activities. This course will make use of flexible teaching forms, and a high degree of student activity is required.

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

  • 2 written assignments

The exam must be answered in Spanish. Information about which dictionaries, if any, you are allowed to consult during the written exam will be available in the reading list at the beginning of the semester.
