Course content

The course presents perspectives on the role and use of the three "major" foreign languages in Norway today: French, German and English. Taking its starting point in current debates in the media and political discussion, the course addresses issues such as the attitudes to (different) foreign languages, the teaching of foreign languages in schools and higher education, foreign languages in the work life, and also central areas such as language and identity and linguistic dominance and power. These themes can be explored both from the perspective of sociolinguistics, literature and civilization.
