Course content

Professional nursing (10 ects)
The professional and scientific foundations of nursing (5 ects.)
Global health and nursing in an international perspctive.
Field observation.
Literature search and critical assessment of scientific articles and project descriptions.
Sceintific literature as a basis for evidence based practice and quality development.
Research ethics in connection with field observation and literature review.



Learning outcome

Knowledge:
The student has:
-in-depth knowledge about a chosen topic focusing on global health and nursing in an international perspective.
- knowledge about field observation and systematic literature review as a method
- knowledge about issues and considerations regarding research ethics in nursing and health science.

Skills:
The student is able to:
- conduct a systematic literature review, analyze and critically assess research literature relevant to nursing in an international perspective as a basis for a larger written paper
-take part in field observation
- find, organize and critically assess relevant theory relevant to international nursing and as a basis for a larger written paper
- by using findings from a literature review and field observation; present, assess and discuss international nursing issues related to global health and nursing in a larger written paper.

General competence:
The student is able to:
- reflect on issues regarding global health and nursing in an international perspective
-demonstrate appropriate academic oral and writing skills in connection with a larger written assignment
-give an oral presentation of their own work to academic staff and fellow students give constructive feedback on the work of other students
-take part in an academic and professional dialogue regarding own and fellow students' work
-assess and integrate research results in clinical practice
- with further specialization, take part in clinical research and presentation of research results.

Learning methods and activities

Lectures, seminars, written assignments, systematic literature review, group or individual supervision. Field observation in connection with clinical placement abroad.
Mandatory activities: In order to submit the bachelor thesis, the following requirements must be met: the thesis question and project plan (including overview of all research articles used) must be submitted and approved by the main tutor by the end of the fall semester. Any changes in thesis question and project plan after this must be approved by the supervisor. The student must have taken part in the required seminars with presentation of the thesis and feedback to/from fellow students and tutors, and any other mandatory tutoring sessions. Written material must be handed in before all seminars at the appointed time the student must have taken part in mandatory lectures (allowed absence 20 %). Approved mandatory activities are valid for the resit exam. Should the student be required to submit a new thesis for the next ordinary exam, all mandatory activities must be taken again, except attendance in mandatory lectures.

The exam consists of a thesis written by two students. Students can also apply to write the thesis individually. 5 ECTS of the course is placed in the 5. semester where the research question and project plan (including overview of the research articles) must be submitted and approved. In the 6th semester the students work on the thesis itself until submission. For the first resubmission, the same paper may be improved and re-submitted, with one supervision session. In case of a third attempt, the student(s) will be required write a new thesis.

Specific conditions

Exam registration requires that class registration is approved in the same semester. Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department.

Nursing (050SY)

Required previous knowledge

Passed all in 1st and 2nd year courses in order to register for the exam. Access to the course is limited to eight students enrolled in the subject SP300517.
