Course content

Course content

The course gives an overview of basic macroeconomic concepts and mechanisms which are important external conditions in many types of managerial decisions. The course uses macroeconomic models to study the relationship between key concepts such as GDP, unemployment, inflation, interest rates, and exchange rates. The models analyse various macroeconomic policies important for sustainable development, and the insight is related to recent macroeconomic developments.

  • about business cycles and macroeconomic stabilitation-policies
  • about international trade and international financial markets
  • about the role of capital and technological progress for economic growth
  • about major macroeconomic crises

Skills

You should be able to

  • use macroeconomic models to discuss how economic policies and external shocks will affect the economy, and in particular how firms are affected
  • analyse the economic situation of an economy and predict future developments
  • relate economic theories to the development of the Norwegian and the international economy

General competence

You should be able to

  • see how economic trends and events will affect the external conditions of the firm in the near future and the firm’s strategic planning and optimal investment decisions.

Learning methods and activities

2 hours of lectures every week, and 2 hours of practical assignments every other week. The course has compulsory activity. Specific requirements will be announced at the beginning of the term.
