About the course

Course content

Microeconomic analysis of consumer behavior; cost of production and competitive supply; analysis of competitive markets; pricing with market power; monopolistic competition and oligopoly. Investment, time and capital markets; expected utility and risk aversion; the net present value criterion for capital investment decisions; weaknesses of the net present value crieterion (capital rationing). Repeated investments, optimal replacement schedules, taxation (treated briefly). Bonds; portfolio investments (The Markowitz and CAPM model).

Learning outcome

The expected learning outcome: the student will know basic microeconomic theory and investment analysis. The student is able to structure and analyse problems in microeconomics and investment analysis taking advantage of the student's prior mathematical training.

Lectures and exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may change from written to oral.
