Management of Demanding Marine Operations

Master's degree programme, 2 years, Ålesund

Management of Demanding Marine Operations

– Programme components

The first year is made up of eight compulsory courses (60 ECTS). Each module is taught intensely over a two week period of teaching and training, individual and group exercises and simulations, followed by up to three months of selv studies, work with supervision and in some courses also a project work. This scheduling makes part time study possible.

The second year is made up of five compulsory subjects (60 ECTS). During this year you are selecting a specialization forming the basis for the master thesis to be executed in the last semester of the programme.

For part time study, please look at the program plan and course plans and make sure to choose dependent courses in correct order.

Experience-based master degree - 90 ECTS

The experience-based program (90 ECTS) is established as a three-year part-time program. You are following two courses during each of the first four semesters. This is equivalent to 50 % work load compared to students studying full time.

It is possible to complete the program in a shorter or in a longer time.

Teaching and working methods

Lectures, individual and group exercises (some to be presented in class), simulations (table-top and in simulators) and project work to ensure a thorough understanding of how the theory can be applied in realistic situations, are taught by teams with extensive theoretical knowledge involved in maritime operations. The modules are mostly two-week, intensive courses, which all are a part of a post qualifying education.

Part time study programmes provide unique opportunities for combining theory and practice. Students who are employed can also link problems or projects relevant to their company to the theoretical concepts in the course.
