Information and programme for the welcome week

The master's degree programmes in Petroleum Engineering and Petroleum Geosciences focuses on the following areas of activity:

  • Exploration and production of oil and gas on the Norwegian continental shelf
  • Methods for increased oil recovery
  • Develop platform solutions and subsea production systems for great water depths
  • Demands for environmental considerations in the northern regions

Digital competence for designing tomorrow's solutions

These programmes of study include information- and computer technology.

Having digital expertise in petroleum engineering entails a unique combination where you as a professional can help define needs and solutions within your core area, and together with specialists, develop new effective solutions using digitization and automation.

As a petroleum engineer with additional expertise in computer engineering, digitization and automation, you will be central in designing tomorrow's solutions. The competence is not limited to the petroleum industry and is also applicable in several other industries.

As a student on Petroleum Engineering and Petroleum Geosciences you will be part of an academic environment that encompasses a broad spectrum of fields and is multi-cultural in nature. You will also have access to excellent learning facilities.

Petroleum Engineering and Petroleum Geosciences students is part of the student organisation Bergstuderendes Forening.

Master in Petroleum Engineering and Master in Petroleum Geosciences is a two years full-time study and constitutes a course load of 120 ECTS credits. The language of instruction is English. 

It is possible to take one semester abroad during your studies.

Petroleum Engineering

BSc/BEng in Petroleum Engineering. Applicants with a BSc/BEng degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering may also be considered for admission if you have relevant work experience from the petroleum sector.

You must also have a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in mathematics and statistics in your Bachelor's/undergraduate degree, including at least one statistics course.

The master's programme is open to both international and Norwegian students.

The study programme has 15 study places for international students and 1 study place for Norwegian/Nordic students.

Petroleum Geosciences

First degree in Applied Geosciences or Geology is required to qualify for admission.

You must also have a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in mathematics and statistics in your Bachelor's/undergraduate degree, including at least one statistics course.

The study programme has 11 study places for international students.
