The first year consists of a series of foundational courses, three of these courses are compulsory while students can choose among a number of options for the five remaining elective courses (see overview). The third semester is comprised of compulsory advanced courses tied to a larger group project plus one elective, while the entire spring semester of the final year is dedicated to the master's thesis.

Credit system

The credit system used by NTNU, is based on a workload of 60 credits for each academic year. This corresponds to The European Credit Transfer System credits (ECTS).
