– About Industrial Ecology

What is Industrial Ecology

Industrial Ecology is an interdisciplinary research field specialising in environmental sustainability. It is the study of the flow of materials and energy in industrial and consumer activities and the effects these flows have on the environment. It also considers the influences of economic, political, regulatory and social factors on the flow, use and transformation of resources.

Study Industrial Ecology

The international master's degree in industrial ecology at NTNU offers an interdisciplinary approach to environmental sustainability.

You will learn how to apply analytical tools to a wide range of environmental issues highly relevant for today’s society; climate, energy, waste, biodiversity, resources and circular economy, and sustainable production and consumption.

You will gain knowledge about environmental pressures and how to critically evaluate solutions. This knowledge is highly relevant for industry, policy and technology development.

Our students bring a variety of academic backgrounds and study in an inter-disciplinary and international environment. The analytical courses apply mathematics and a basic knowledge of linear algebra is recommended.
