How can we develop sustainable manufacturing processes and products? How can we do more with less resources? One thing we know is that students in Sustainable Manufacturing will participate in forming tomorrow’s sustainable solutions.
This master's degree programme gives you sought after competence about how we can deal with the challenges that the manufacturing industry is facing today.
Master in sustainable manufacturing has its core area within the manufacturing industry with a focus on sustainability in the environment, society and economy.
You will get an expertise in several aspects of manufacturing:
- Product development
- Project management
- Information technology including Industrial wireless sensor systems
- Industry 4.0 - Cyber physical manufacturing systems
- Design for sustainable manufacturing
- Sustainable manufacturing system operations management
Life cycle assessment and deep process knowledge – from extracting raw materials to the end of a products life –, combined with advanced industrial automation to enable mass customisation are also relevant topics that you will learn about.
Innovation for social responsibility goes hand in hand with digital technology and research-based knowledge. The manufacturing industry needs bright minds that can find new sustainable and effective solutions that also gives them a competitive advantage.
With a master's degree in Sustainable Manufacturing you are qualified for a variety of jobs including:
- Project management
- Quality management and engineering
- Manufacturing process engineering
- Materials sciences engineering
In addition you can work in various consulting jobs. This master's degree can also be a stepping stone for an academic career.
Lectures, group work, seminars and practical training in laboratories are used as teaching methods. The teaching methods are based on blended learning with a combination of on-campus teaching as well as flexible learning methods through digital tools.

Master in Sustainable Manufacturing is a two years full-time study and constitutes a course load of 120 ECTS credits. It is possible to accommodate an individual education plan if you are not able to take the master's degree programme full-time.
It is possible to take one semester abroad during your studies.
Bachelor's degree according to the Norwegian framework for bachelor in engineering or equivalent.
The master's programme is open to both international and Norwegian students.

Tuition fees
There are no tuition fees for students from the EU/EEA + Switzerland. For non-European students, tuition fees are being charged according to category C. More information is available on our web page about the tuition fees.
