PhD (Doctoral education)

Computer Science

NB! This study has been replaced by a new PhD program in Computer Science in 2019.

About Computer Science

NTNU offers two doctoral programmes in Gjøvik, of these the Ph.D. in Computer Science is the more general. The programme is well-established and has strong international links.

It consists of a research component and a taught component, normally studied in parallel. The taught component offers general research skills, introductory modules for the broader area of studies as well as specialized lectures and seminars on research topics. These, together with guided and independent studies offer a significant degree of freedom for the taught component. The research component is conducted under the supervision of one or more members of academic staff guiding the candidate through the research activities.

The programme is generally offered both on a full-time and part-time basis, where the nominal full-time duration of studies is three years.

The programme is conducted entirely in English, and candidates have access to a diverse faculty covering Computer Science as well as Media Technology in its remit. Candidates are generally encouraged to conduct part of their research overseas and benefit from the wide-ranging national and international network of academic staff at the faculty. Graduates are well-placed for positions in academia as well as leading positions in government and industry.
