About Professor Mørch’s House

Professor Mørch’s House will be the new office and teaching building at Tyholt. The building contains a library, meeting and conference facilities, study areas, office space and a service centre with reception.

An underground corridor connects the building with the Tankhodet building, which contains a canteen and several meeting rooms. The construction of Professor Mørch’s House started in the autumn of 2022 and the building will be completed during the first half of 2025.

About Professor Mørch:

Professor Mørch is the father of the towing tank. Hans R. Mørch was a professor of shipbuilding and Norway’s youngest professor when he was appointed to the position at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1913.

Mørch spent much of his professional career establishing the towing tank at Tyholt. When it was completed in 1939, the towing tank was the first of its kind in Scandinavia.
