The Cavitation Laboratory about

The Cavitation Laboratory is the only laboratory at Tyholt that will remain unchanged. The Cavitation Laboratory investigates the hydrodynamic performance of propellers, thrusters and lifting systems on vessels. The laboratory tests how characteristics are affected by cavitation, noise and pressure impulses.

The test section has been operational since 2018 and tests everything from small to medium-sized hull models inside the tunnel. Large windows make it possible to follow the tests both visually and using advanced optical measurement techniques (PIV and DIC).
