Accelerating Innovation in Marine AI-powered Bioprospecting - AIMARIA
From marine biodiversity to sustainable biomanufacturing
Marine microorganisms harbour enormous biosynthetic potential, yet many remain difficult to cultivate and much of their chemistry remains unexplored. Even when promising natural products are identified, limited availability and complex biosynthetic pathways often prevent their further development.
AIMARIA is developing an AI-driven Digital-to-Pilot pipeline that combines marine biodiscovery, predictive DNA design, synthetic biology, cell-free systems and advanced biomanufacturing.
The project aims to establish sustainable production routes for high-value marine natural products, including Peloruside A and Pateamine A, while discovering novel bioactive compounds and enzymes.
Coordinated by NTNU, AIMARIA brings together 11 beneficiary organisations in a four-year Horizon Europe Innovation Action running from September 2026 to August 2030.
