DIVERSEA SPRING CONFERENCE ROUND-UP

DiverSea researchers have contributed to a wide range of conferences this spring, strengthening connections with partners, stakeholders, and other marine research projects across Europe and beyond. Here's a quick round-up of some conferences we've been part of:

European Maritime Day: DiverSea partner Athens University of Economics and Business, represented by Alice Guittard, attended this meeting in Cork, Ireland in May. As the EU's annual event dedicated to maritime affairs and the blue economy, the European Maritime Day brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across Europe. During the event, we reached out to invite start-ups and SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) interested in ocean biodiversity to take part in our regional innovation workshops and science-industry networking and matchmaking sessions. Plenary sessions from the event are now available on YouTube.

OTTERS Project Conference "Waves of Change": DiverSea partners LPN, AKD, and University of Porto joined this meeting to present a poster highlighting DiverSea citizen science initiatives. This meeting, held in May in Oeiras, Portugal, and led by the OTTERS Project, showcased the critical role of citzien science in reshaping how we observe, understand, and protect our coasts. The event brought together around 140 participants, including teachers, students, researchers, and members of the general public.

One Ocean Science Congress: The One Ocean Science Congress was the scientific pillar of the the third UN Ocean Conference, which brought together an astonishing 27,800 visitors in Nice, France, and through digital participation this June. The conference highlighted the importance of European collaboration and leadershp in ocean research, with special emphasis on digital innovation and international cooperation. DiverSea partner NTNU, represented by Glaucia Fragoso, presented a poster about automated observation of marine phytoplankton dynamics using optical and imaging technology.

We look forward to continuing engagement in conference and meetings in the seasons to come!
