The NTNU University Museum has a collection of minerals, rocks and fossils which are among the first collected museum objects in Norway.
Even the first catalogue from 1779 of the museum's collections includes some 30 minerals, for instance silver from Kongsberg, and 15–20 petrifactions. The collection also includes the original correspondence with the Kongsberg Mines from 1760. This fact gives the collection a historic value.
The geological collection counts some 8,000 objects.
