The objective of WP1 is to design new technologies that collectively enable Edge AI platforms with next-level cost efficiency. The workpackage consists of four Research Pillars, which each focus on a fundamental Edge AI subsystem: 

Research Pillar 1: Sensing

Lead: Kristian G. Kjelgård (UiO)

Objective: Develop in/near-sensor artificial neural networks to enable highly cost-efficient Edge AI.

Research Pillar 2: Processing

Lead: Magnus Själander (NTNU)

Objective: Design accelerators and processor cores for Edge AI platforms with next-level cost efficiency.

Research Pillar 3: Communication

Lead: Dag T. Wisland (UiO)

Objective: Develop highly cost-efficient communication technologies with enhanced functionality for Edge AI.

Research Pillar 4: System Software and Tools

Lead: Per G. Kjeldsberg (NTNU)

Objective: Develop system software and tools that help realize the full potential of Edge AI platforms.
