Welcome party on Tuesday, 29th August, followed by a guided "warming-up"

Immediately after the opening lecture on Tuesday evening, around 20:00 we invite you to a welcome party in Banksalen (the conference venue). Canapés and drinks will be served. The welcome party is included in the conference fee (registration necessary). At around 20:50, we will take a group of 50 persons to Suhmhuset/NTNU University Museum for a demonstration of a reconstructed 16th century distillation furnace. The second group will leave from the conference venue at c. 21:20.

 

Visit to Sverresborg open air museum on Wednesday, 30th August

On Wednesday (early) evening, we offer a visit to Sverresborg open air museum, with more than 80 historical buildings from the Trondelag region (including a Medieval stave church), and several indoor exhibitions. The excursion includes bus transportation to and from the museum and a guided tour of parts of the museum (c. 1,5 hours). Among other things, we will learn about life on the farms/in the rural areas and visit the old town which offers a charming representation of the wooden houses that characterized the city from the 18th century up until today. Here you will find the dentist’s exhibition, the shoemaker’s workshop, the post office and the museum’s old grocery store, and a pharmacy from 1936. A snack/light lunch will be served on the bus (can be brought into the museum park). See here for more information on the museum.

Organ concert in Nidaros cathedral on Thursday, 31st August

Before the conference dinner, you are invited to a 20 minutes organ concert in Nidaros cathedral, the northernmost cathedral in Europe and an important pilgrimage destination since the 11th century.

The concert is kindly offered to us by the municipality of Trondheim.

The concert is free of charge, and no registration is necessary. You don't have to register for the dinner to attend the concert. Those who will join us for the dinner, will go directly from the cathedral to the vintage tram (c. 10 min walk) which will take us to Lian restaurant (see below).

 

Conference dinner on Thursday, 31st August

The conference dinner will take place in Lian Restaurant in beautiful Bymarka recreation ground. A vintage tram will take us from the city center to the restaurant.

Walking tour/hike along the coastline of Trondheim on Friday, 1st September

After the conference programme ends on Friday, in the (early) evening we invite you to take part in a typical Norwegian activity - hiking in recreation grounds. Many locals use such recreation grounds every weekend - alone, or with friends or family.  Ladestien strolls along the Trondheimsfjord and offers a beautiful area for recreation and exercise. Our walk will go from Korsvika to Ringvebukta and will take around 1 hour of active walking. A bus will take us to Lade and back to the city centre. A snack/light lunch will be served on the bus.

The excursion is free of charge, but you need to register for it.

Please wear comfortable and practical clothes and shoes (trainers, hiking shoes, rubber boots) and bring a rain coat (and trousers if you have) to be sure.

 

Excursion to Røros on Saturday, 2nd September

We offer the chance to visit the 17th century mining town of Røros. The visit will be a full-day excursion (8:00-20:00) and includes a guided walking tour of the old town centre and its mining sites, the church, the museum, and a visit to an old mine. We will have a nice lunch at the hotel and even a taste of traditional cake on the way back. Røros is ranked as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

1000 NOK per person / 700 NOK for students

If possible, please bring a pair of rubber boots or trainers for the visit to the mine (and change when you re-enter the bus)
