Travel to Trondheim

By air

Trondheim is served by Trondheim Airport (TRD) at Værnes, with flights to and from most other airports in Norway. SAS and Norwegian have about 20 flights to Trondheim from Oslo every day. With direct flights with KLM from Amsterdam, SAS from Copenhagen there are plenty of possibilities to get to Trondheim with only one stopover connection from most places.

Getting from the airport to your hotel and conference venue

The airport is about half an hour from the city centre, with several options for making the journey including Værnesexpressen (airport express bus service), train (priced very reasonably as a local public transport journey), ride sharing platforms and taxi.

By Bus

The airport express bus (Værnesexpressen) has departures leaving from the arrivals’ terminal to the city center about every 15 minutes. You can find the airport express bus right outside the arrival hall. Travel time to Trondheim is approximately 45 minutes. (Varies with number of passengers and stops.)

Tickets can be bought online, via app, on a ticket machine on the airport or on the bus. The best deal is booking a roundtrip ticket online (or in the app) in advance (NOK 409, price checked on the 24th of April 2026). Same day tickets are more expensive. The ticket includes one handheld luggage item and one large suitcase. Additional luggage can be purchased for NOK 50 per item.

By Rail

For international visitors wishing to explore other parts of Scandinavia before or after the conference, Trondheim is also accessible by train from Oslo or Østersund in Sweden. The journey from Oslo travels over Dovre mountains, the dividing range between northern and southern Norway. The Trondheim Central Station is adjacent to the city centre. Tickets and more at Entur.

By car

All the major car rental services are available in Norway for those wishing to drive to or from Trondheim. European highway E6 connects north to Narvik and south to Oslo with both directions offering glimpses of the stunning natural scenery that has made Norway a travel destination for centuries.
