The Biennial Conference of The International Society for Industrial Ecology (ISIE2027) is organized by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), based in Trondheim, has a long tradition in science, technology, and engineering. Industrial Ecology at NTNU grew out of this tradition and a close dialogue with industry. The initiative began in 1994 following a request from Norwegian industry for graduates with competence in environmental management, systems analysis, design for the environment, and eco efficiency. Coursework started in 1996, and the Industrial Ecology Programme, IndEcol, was formally established in 1998. In 2003, NTNU established the world’s first PhD programme in Industrial Ecology, followed by its international MSc programme in 2005.

Over three decades later, IndEcol is a well established interdisciplinary research programme specialized in environmental sustainability analysis, covering both research and education in Industrial Ecology at NTNU. Its research spans ecosystems and bioresources, energy, transport and buildings, circular economy and resources, and sustainable production and consumption, supported by methods including life cycle assessment, material flow analysis, multi regional input output analysis, ecosystem and climate models, remote sensing, and field studies. IndEcol also contributes directly to major international assessments, including those of the IPCC and the International Resource Panel.
