Akiko Shimada

Akiko Shimada is the General Manager of the Business Intelligence Department (BID) at Sumitomo Corporation Europe Ltd., London (SCEU), leading strategic intelligence efforts, provides geopolitical analysis for regional business units and senior management.

Akiko joined SCEU in May 2025, bringing with her over two decades of experience in the financial sector. Prior to joining SCEU, she was a Senior Associate Director in the European Treasury Department at Mizuho Bank, where she delivered in-depth analysis and crafted business solutions for core Asset-Liability Management (ALM) strategies. She also spearheaded ESG strategy implementation within Treasury function and led cross department project management initiatives. Earlier roles include an economic programme Research Associate at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). 

She holds CFA ESG Investing (now called Sustainability Investing) certificate and an MA in Development Economics from the University of Sussex

Originally from Japan, Akiko lives with her husband in London, and her son visits occasionally during university breaks.
