Karl Erik Haug is a Professor in Modern History and Head of Department at the Department of Historical Sciences, NTNU.
His research has primarily focused on Norway's relations with other nations, utilizing a comparative approach that spans from the 1870s to the present day. After the invasion on Ukraine in February 2022, he has given many talks on the challenges Norway is facing today when it comes to foreign -, security -, and defense policy.
Before his tenure at NTNU, Haug served as a professor at the Norwegian Defence University College (Dean of the Royal Norwegian Air Force Academy from 2012 to 2018). He is also Chairman of the Board for the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), a role he has held since 2022.
