Marte Gerhardsen

Marte Gerhardsen is State Secretary to Norway’s Minister of Defence, Tore O. Sandvik, a position she has held since March 2025. She brings extensive leadership experience from public administration, finance, civil society, and policy development.

Prior to her current role, Gerhardsen served as Director of Education in the City of Oslo, leading Norway’s largest municipal agency with responsibility for education services for more than 90,000 students. She has also held senior positions at the Norwegian Directorate of Health and DNB, and was CEO of the politically independent Agenda think tank. Earlier in her career, she served as Secretary General of CARE Norway, overseeing international operations across 20 countries.

Gerhardsen holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the London School of Economics and has completed the Senior Executive Course at the Norwegian Defence University College.
