Stephan Krinke
Prof. Dr. Stephan Krinke is Head of Sustainability Management and Life Cycle Engineering at the
Fraunhofer IST and Professor of Sustainability Management at the Technical University of
Braunschweig. Prof. Krinke develops sustainability strategies for industry. These include
decarbonization roadmaps, materiality analyses and life cycle based tools for the management of
sustainability targets. These tools include life cycle assessment, life cycle engineering and costing as
well as carbon- and water footprints.
Prof. Krinke has been teaching environmental and sustainability management at various universities
for over 20 years. He represents Fraunhofer for Sustainability and Life Cycle Engineering in the DIN
group for life cycle assessment and product-related environmental labels.
Prof. Krinke has broad experience in the development and implementation of sustainability
strategies in industry: He began his career in 2000 at Volkswagen AG, where he held various
management positions. From 2010 to 2015, he was Head of Environmental Product. In 2016, he
was appointed Head of Group Environmental Protection and Environmental Management Officer
at Volkswagen AG. In this role, Prof. Krinke was responsible for environmental protection for
products, all production sites as well as strategy and mobility. From 2018 to 2022, Stephan Krinke
was Head of Sustainability Strategy in the General Secretariat of the Chairman of the Board of
Management and was responsible for the Group's decarbonization programme.
