AI Barometer 2025/26 - Annual Assessment of AI Perception, Adoption and Usage in the Mid-Norway Region

Our team has conducted a regional survey to find out more about the use of AI in the Mid-Norway region. While similar studies have examined the use of AI in Scandinavia, there has been a lack of specific insight into AI usage in Norway, and in our immediate surroundings. Our work at NTNU Trondheim thrives on dialogue with local stakeholders, so it is important for us to generate knowledge that is relevant to the people and businesses here in the local area.

Central Norway has a strong focus on new technologies, with numerous IT and software agencies in Trondheim alone, and a large number of students enrolled in technical degree programmes at NTNU. Furthermore, there is a greater sense of optimism in Norway regarding new technologies such as AI, which is why it was appropriate and needed to conduct a survey for Trøndelag and the Central Norway region in general.

The AI Barometer survey, which we launched for the first time last year, will now be conducted annually. This will enable us to track and analyse how the use of AI develops over a longer period, identify areas where intervention is needed, or spot any potential crises emerging. The more often we conduct the survey, the more content there will be on this page, and the more insights will be made available.

One of our main objectives is to promote dialogue between regional stakeholders. For us, this also means that the findings we generate as researchers at NTNU should be accessible and understandable to everyone, so that genuine dialogue is possible. If you have any questions or comments regarding the AI Barometer, please feel free to contact Miriam Klöpper by email. You are also welcome to get in touch regarding requests for talks on the Barometer findings, especially in the context of current social and ethical risks of AI within organisations.
