Haitze Siemers
Haitze Siemers is Advisor to the Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER). He has worked at the European Commission since 1993, building extensive experience across international relations, trade policy, maritime policy, and energy governance.
He began his career working on EU–Japan relations, serving both in Brussels and Tokyo. He later moved into trade policy, where he helped develop and lead the European Commission’s dialogue with civil society on EU trade policy. After a period working in consumer policy, Siemers joined the team responsible for shaping a blueprint for Europe’s Integrated Maritime Policy.
From 2008 to 2018, he held several leadership roles within the Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE). During this period, he led teams responsible for advancing Blue Growth strategies, developing EU legislation on Maritime Spatial Planning, shaping the EU’s International Ocean Governance Strategy, and supporting innovation, research, and investment in maritime sectors.
In June 2018, Siemers became Head of Unit C2 in DG ENER, contributing to the European Union’s work on energy policy and the clean energy transition. He currently serves as Advisor to the Director-General of DG ENER, supporting strategic work on European energy policy and the broader energy transition.
