Hydrogen Pathways in the Nordics: Market Outlook to scale up
Hydrogen Pathways in the Nordics: Market Outlook to scale up
This workshop examines how hydrogen can be scaled up as a key energy carrier in the Nordic region, with a particular focus on hydrogen demand, infrastructure, and system integration. It brings together researchers, industry actors, and policymakers to discuss development pathways that are closely aligned with European market dynamics and decarbonization trends.
The workshop’s sessions address long-term scenarios, cross-border value chains, and the role of hydrogen in integrating large shares of variable renewable energy. They reflect themes such as offshore wind–hydrogen interactions and hydrogen hub development that are central to the Hydrogen Pathways and NordicH2ubs projects and their related studies.
Content and presentations
The presentations showcase modelling-based assessments of hydrogen production, transport, storage, and end-use, highlighting investment needs, infrastructure choices, and price formation in emerging hydrogen markets. The workshop will discuss projections and insights on where hydrogen delivers the greatest system value in the Nordics, under what price and policy conditions projects become bankable, and how regional cooperation can reduce costs and risks. The results aim to support the design of Nordic hydrogen hubs and guide strategic investments consistent with recent hydrogen roadmaps and market studies.
