UNET project at

Addis Ababa University (AAU)

We work with establishing PhD programmes and Training facilities at the Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.

PhD programs relevant for UNET

AAU educates future academic staff for regional universities. The university thus needs to improve the quality of PhD education through improved and new PhD courses, training of staff, and enhancement of laboratory training facilities.

Currently at AAU there is one PhD programme within Energy Technology and the plan is to launch a new PhD program in Energy Technology. The PhD Course development under UNIT is a timely response for this need by enabling development of a partnership of Sub-Saharan Institutions for sharing the development of PhD courses and improved training facilities.

Training Facilities at Addis Ababa University on Energy Technologies

AAU has been in the process of securing a high capacity computer for large scale computational activities through a World Bank funding project. UNET will cover the cost of licensing the envisaged computational software (Ansys Fluent) such that PhD students in the UNET group can be hosted at AAU and get access to the simulation resources.

AAU will also provide access to other existing facilities related to energy technology such as small hydropower testing, material lab, biodiesel test facility and wind turbine testing (to be purchased), if the need arises to use them for simulation validation purposes.
