Encapsulation and mechanical integration for implantable devices which uses wireless power transmission and energy harvesting

Supervisor: Jean-Christophe Lourme (ValoTec)

Co-Supervisor: Pr. Elie Lefeuvre (Institut d’Electronique Fondamentale)

Description:

Research on solutions for implant encapsulation. These implants should be able to allow data communication and may use wireless power transmission, energy harvesting, battery cells and combination of these technologies to be powered. Estimation of solutions for integration and encapsulation, taking into consideration biocompatibility, reliability, power solution, data communication, … Design and implement a complete system, Proof-of-concept, to be able to evaluate the various solutions thanks to in-vitro and in-vivo studies.

This PhD will take place at ValoTec premises next to Paris. This PhD is done in association with the IEF laboratory from the Paris Sud University.

The student will be able to follow a training program with the other members of the consortium.

Applicant background:

  1. Very good Master degree in Materials science, Process engineering or Biomedical engineering
  2. Skills in biology, biochemistry, biocompatibility, encapsulation, integration…
  3. Skills in general physics

How to apply:

The position will remain open until filled. Strong applicants will be considered regardless of specific experience. The application procedure will be carried out in compliance with the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of the European Charter and Code for Researchers.

Additional information:

ValoTec was founded in 2005 and stems from the SATIE laboratory, one of the biggest laboratories in France specialized in electrical engineering. ValoTec develops for its clients, from start-up to large companies, active medical devices, diagnostic devices, test and measurement equipment. ValoTec provides a pragmatic method, by driving in parallel research & development, regulatory assessment and design thinking approach to help its clients from the idea to the manufacturing of the product.

The top-level research carried out at Paris-Sud University focuses on understanding the world, on its students' success, and on the needs of society. The large number of major awards they have received and the university's high international ranking are proof of the exceptional quality of their research.

IEF (Fundamental Electronic Institute), Paris Sud University, is a public research laboratory. Located in the Scientific Centre of Orsay, south of Paris (France), IEF is affiliated to the institutes "INSIS" (Engineering and Systems Sciences) and "INP" (Physics) of CNRS (French National Center for Scientific Research). It employs over 280 staff and students.
