LivaNova/Sorin CRM invites applications for the position of an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) within the WiBEC Innovative Training Network (ITN), funded by the MARIE SKŁODOWSKA-CURIE ACTIONS of the Horizon2020 Framework Programme of the European Commission. We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated early stage researcher (ESR), who will enjoy the team spirit of a dynamic interdisciplinary research group. The candidate must be eligible for a PhD programme. The PhD student will conduct research at LivaNova Sorin CRM, starting Spetember 2016, in a cooperative industrial PhD programme with a French university. He/she will visit other network partners for secondments, and attend training events of the network.
PhD Description
The candidate will study transceivers and protocol for wireless multi-implant communication system. He will define the best solution to secure body communication taking into account all the constraints as power management, size etc.., needed for highly innovative cardiac implantable devices. In the second stage he will design the transceiver and simulate the complete system. He will run in-vitro and in-vivo experimentations on functional prototypes.
The ESR will complete three secondments during their time at LivaNova Sorin CRM: one at VALOTEC France; one at Oslo Universitetssykehus HF, Norway; and one at a French University, France.
Applicant Profile
- Master degree in electronics and communications
- Skills in electromagnetic simulations tools
- Skills in Analog/Digital circuit design
- Experimental and theoretical skills
- Creativity and willingness to work in an inter-disciplinary project
- Ability and motivation to conduct high-quality research
- Fluency in English, good communication and (scientific) writing/reporting skills. Speaking and understanding French would be appreciated.
Selection Procedure

- ESR eligibility rule: candidates for ESR positions must have less than 4 years of full- time equivalent research experience at the time of recruitment.
- Mobility rule: at the time of recruitment, the applicant must not have lived in France for more than 12 out of the past 36 months. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
